Alessio Lisci: “We controlled the game, but we are dumbfounded by what happened to Iker”
A hat trick by forward Raúl García, along with goals by forwards Ante Budimir and Kike Barja, sends Los Rojillos to next round
Club Atlético Osasuna defeated Sant Jordi, 5-0, at Son Malferit on Wednesday night, securing a spot in the second round of the Copa del Rey. Forward Raúl García netted a hat trick, while forwards Ante Budimir and Kike Barja added to the scoreline for Los Rojillos. However, the victory was marred by an injury to defender Iker Benito, who had to leave the match during stoppage time.
Osasuna came out strong, creating several early opportunities. García headed a cross just over the bar, and midfielder Jon García attempted a shot from the edge of the box. The breakthrough came when Raúl García converted a penalty after midfielder Martín Pedroarena was fouled. Just eight minutes later, he doubled the lead, finishing a pass from defender Asier Osambela with a strike placed perfectly beside the post.
Following the halftime break, Osasuna maintained control, and in the 63rd minute, García scored his first professional hat trick with a header off a well-placed cross. The home side continued to press for more goals, but it wasn't until the 83rd minute that they found the net again. Forward Roberto Arroyo received a long pass, dribbled into the box, and set up Budimir, who tapped the ball in. Five minutes before the final whistle, Barja capped off the scoring with a powerful shot from inside the 18-yard box. Unfortunately, as the game entered stoppage time, Benito was taken out of the match due to an injury, leaving Los Rojillos with a bitter taste after the win.
With this victory, Los Rojillos advance to the next round of the Copa del Rey. They will return to league action against Real Oviedo on Monday, November 3, at Estadio Carlos Tartiere, in Week 11 of LaLiga EA Sports. Kickoff is set for 9 p.m. CET (8 p.m. GMT/3 p.m. ET).
